Stamps on Woman’s Army Auxiliary Corps – Switzerland 1965

Switzerland issued a stamp on 08 Mar 1965 to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Swiss Woman’s Army Auxiliary Corps. It features a woman in uniform. FHD – The Women’s Relief Services as part of Army Auxiliary Corps was created in 1939-40. In 1986 it was renamed as MFD and in 1995 replaced by Women in the Army (FDA).

650th Anniversary of Battle of Morgarten – The Special cover and cancellation commemorates the the 650th Anniversary of the Battle of Morgarten. This battle occurred on 15 Nov 1315 when a 1,500 strong force of Swiss Confederacy led by Werner Stauffacher defeated  a group of Habsburg soldiers led by Leopold I Duke of Austria on the shores of Lake Ageri near Morgarten Pass. This established the supremacy of three Forest Cantons the core of modern Switzerland.
