First Day Cover on Colleges – St Stephen’s College Delhi – India 1981.
St Stephen’s College in Delhi was founded in 1881 by the Cambridge Mission. Rev Samuel Scott Allnutt of St John’s College also became the First Principal of St Stephen’s College Delhi. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges for Arts and Sciences in India. Initially affiliated to Calcutta University and then to Punjab University from 1882. Along with Hindu College and Ramjas College -they are the three founding colleges on the University of Delhi in 1922. Women students were first admitted in 1928 till Miranda House came into being in 1949 and thereafter from 1975 again Women Students were admitted.
