The stamps feature Horseback Postillion and a Stagecoach. Before the arrival of the Railways these were the means of transport of mail in Europe.
The Von Thurn und Taxis family dominated the European Mail Services from 15th Century to 19th Century. It started in 1489 when Maximillian I of Austria ordered the Courier Family Tasso to set up a postal network. They used a relay system using horses and stagecoaches to carry mail and passengers. Enroute mail would dropped & picked up, horses for giving rest etc. Their motto was cito, cito, cito, citissimo- fast, fast, fast, superfast.
This is what is inscribed on the bottom of mini sheets of 10 stamps in Se-tenant pairs.
Date of Issue 11 May 2020.
