Beagle on Stamps – Hong Kong 2006
2006 was celebrated as Year of Dog as per Lunar Calendar . Hong Kong China issued a set of four stamps on Dogs in 2006 . A Miniature Sheet featuring Beagle breed was also issued.
$ 5.00 – Beagle – It is a breed of small hound similar to Foxhound. It is also a scent hound used to hunt small game like hare and rabbit. It is an amiable , intelligent ,gentle and excitable breed. Beagles have approximately 220 million scent receptors compared to 5 million in human beings. In 1984 Beagles were employed at Los Angeles airport to sniff out contraband food being brought into USA. This proved a great success and now “Beagles Brigade” patrol baggage-claim areas of 20 International airports and other entry points in USA.
It has a life expectancy of 12-15 years . It requires training and exercise everyday and one needs to control its diet as they tend to over eat. Their nose controls their brain.
