Miniature Sheet Helsinki Central Station – Finland 2019.
Finland issued a set of Four stamps on 13 Mar 2019 to mark centenary of the Helsinki Railway station Building. The building was designed by Eliel Saarinen and inaugurated in 1919. It was chosen as one of the most beautiful stations of the World by BBC in 2013.
Helsinki’s First Railway station was built in 1862. Due to its popularity the station was redesigned and inaugurated in 1919. In 1960s underground shopping complex and underpass was built. The first electric arrived on 13 Jan 1969 and regular electric trains started on 26 Jan 1969.
The Rautatientori metro station was built as part of Helsinki Metro Station and opened in 1982. In 2000 the glass roof was built over Stations central platforms.
The station is clad mainly with Finnish Granite and its distinguishing features are Clock Tower and Two statues at entrance holding Spherical Lamps. There are 19 Platforms and the Passenger traffic is 200,000 per day.
