UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India III- India 15 Aug 2020.

India Post has issued a Miniature Sheet containing Five stamps on UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India Series III on 15 Aug 2020. The following five cultural sites are featured

Rupees Five – Historic City of Ahmedabad- Sarkhej Roza – It is a mosque cum tomb located in Makarba 7 kms south-west of Ahmedabad. Sarkhej was once a very prominent centre of Sufi culture where where sufi saint Shaikh Ahmed Ganj Baksh lived. Sultan Ahmed Shah built his capital on the banks of Sabarmati a few miles away from . This complex was also called “Acropolis of Ahmedabad ” due to its comparison with Acropolis of Athens. The architecture is a fusion of Persian, Islamic , Hindu and Jain to call it Indo-Sarcenic.

Sarkhej was so famous for Indigo in 17th Century that the Dutch established a factory here in the village in 1620.
