Henry VIII Medal fetches $347,293 at a Swiss Auction.
The Henry VIII medal believed to be the First English Commemorative medal ever produced fetched $347,293 at a Lugdunum auction in Switzerland. It is known as Gold Supremacy Medal only one of five to exist. It is from 1545 and only one outside a museum collection commemorates Henry VIII becoming head of the Anglican Church and turning away from Rome.
Weighing 61g with a bullion value almost five times higher than the sovereign, the largest English gold coin struck at the time, this is considered the first English medal of the Renaissance.
