BENJAMIN SAVŠEK – Slovenia’s first Olympic medal in canoeing

Third time lucky, as the saying goes. Following an eighth place at the Olympic Games in London and a sixth place in Rio de Janeiro, Benjamin Savšek finally hit the jackpot this summer. In Tokyo the Slovene slalom canoeist paddled his way to the very top, incidentally winning Slovenia’s first Olympic medal in canoeing. His gold medal caps a dazzling international sporting career that is slowly winding its way to the end of its second decade.

His other greatest successes include seven medals from the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships and three more than that – an incredible ten – from the European Canoe Slalom Championships.

A 1.33 Euro stamp was issued on 15 Oct 2021.
