Naik Yeshwant Ghadge was awarded the Victoria Cross for actions in Italy during World War II as part of 3rd Battalion 5th Maratha Light Infantry on 10 July 1944. He was martyred at the age of 23 and was born on 16 Nov 1921 at Raigad, Maharashtra. His Victoria Cross was posthumously gazetted (officially published in ‘The London Gazette’) on 2 November 1944.
