BIRDPEX 9 in Gmunden (Austria) – 2022

After New Zealand (1990), Germany (1994), Great Britain (1998), the Netherlands (2002), Denmark (2006), Belgium (2010), France (2014) and Luxembourg (2018), Austria (2022) will be the 9th country where the exhibition will take place. BIRDPEX is a special exhibition dedicated to all kinds of exhibits, with the theme “birds”, primarily thematic philately, but other bird exhibits are also shown (open philately, maximaphily, traditional philately, postal history, picture postcards, etc.). It is a national exhibition with international participation, also open to first-time exhibitors. It was held from 26-28 Aug 2022.

Birdpex 2022 – Mute Swan

In 2022, Birdex, a special exhibit dedicated to birds in philately, took place in Austria for the first time.

Birds are a popular subject in philately. In 1990, the first Birdpex was held in New Zealand and since then it has taken place every four years in a different country. Birdpex 9 will be part of the “phila”-Toscana scheduled to take place in Gmunden, Upper Austria, from 26 to 28 August 2022. While exhibited objects will mainly focus on birds in philately, there will also be other works dedicated to birds.

Austria issued a stamp on Mute Swan on 27th Aug 2022.

The commemorative stamp features a mute swan, which is the largest Austrian water bird, one of the heaviest birds capable of flight, and a particularly majestic bird. Swans remain attached to one partner throughout their lives, and both parents take care of raising the young. The young still have gray plumage, and their mothers sometimes even carry them on their back.
