Saragarhi Battle -Special Covers India 2022
It was on 12 Sep 1897 that the Battle of Saragarhi was Fought in Kohat in NWFP (Part of India then). These 21 Soldiers were pitched against 12000 to 24000 tribesmen. It is regarded as the greatest last stand in History. Havildar Ishar Singh led his men with great Valour and Gallantry and laid down their lives but not before killing 600-1400 tribesmen. There battle from Fort Gulistan was an epic encounter featured in Film Kesari of 2019 where Akhshay portrays Havildar Ishar Singh’s role.
All 21 Gallant Soldiers of 36th Sikh (Now 4th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment) were awarded the Indian Order of Merit , which was the highest Gallantry Award an Indian Soldier could get during that period.
