Dr Ruth Katharina Martha PFAU a German Physician and Nun who dedicated her life to eradicating Leprosy in Pakistan was known as Pakistan’s Mother Teresa.
Dr Ruth Katharina was born on 09 sep 1929 in Leipzig,Germany and arrived in Karachi in 1960 enroute to India and volunteered to work at a Local Leprosy Colony.She decided to stay in Pakistan as health care worker and established the first Marie Aide Leprosy Centre (MALC).
She was granted Pakistan Citizenship in 1988 and was Nun of the Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary. She passed away on 10 Aug 2017. she was accorded a State Funeral a first for a Christian Woman in a muslim majority country.
A commemorative stamp was issued by Pakistan on 03 Dec 2017 on this great human being. A block of four round stamps is listed.
