Australia State Floral Emblems and Philately – New South Wales – Pre Stamped Envelopes Australia 1982
Australia Post issued a set of seven Pre stamped envelopes on the Australian States’ floral emblems on 19 May 1982.
The Waratah (Telopea speciosissima) – It was proclaimed as state floral emblem of New South Wales in 1962 by the then Governor Sir Eric Woodward.
This sturdy ,slender plant mainly grows in the sandy bushland areas of Sydney district and Blue Mountain and some of the ranges north and south of Sydney. The Waratah grows to about three metres in height and its crimson dome shaped flowers bloom in the late spring and early summer months.There are four species of Waratah and all are endemic to south eastern Australia.
