Puneri Turban– Stamps on Headgears of India 2017

A set of 16 stamps was issued by India Post on Headgears of India on 10 Feb 2017.These headgears from different parts of the country signify social ,cultural and community values. A set of 16 Souvenir covers issued by India Post on these 16 types of Headgears are listed.

Puneri Turban : The origin of Puneri Turban or Pagadi which is considered as a symbol of pride and honour in te city of Pune dates back to the 17th century where the “kostis” made the pagadis at people’s homes ontheir fortnightly visits. To preserve the identity of the pagadi there were demands from locals to grant it a Geographical Indication (GI) status . Their demand was fulfilled and the pagadi became an intellectual property on 04 Sep 2009.
