British Empire Games ,British Empire & Commonwealth Games – Philatelic Glance

The Commonwealth Games is a multi discipline sporting event involving athletes from Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930 and has taken place every four years since then except 1942 & 1946 when they were cancelled due to World War II.

The last games were held in Glasgow ,Scotland in 2014 and next are scheduled to be held in Gold Coast , Australia in 2018. The Games were known as

British Empire Games from 1930-1950.

1930- Hamilton,Canada      1934 – London,England   1938 – Sydney, Australia                          1950 – Auckland New Zealand.

British Empire & Commonwealth Games from 1954-1966.

1954 – Vancouver,Canada             1958 -Cardiff,Wales         1962 -Perth,Australia                      1966- Kingston ,Jamaica

Jamaica issued a set of Four Stamps on the 8th British Empire & Commonwealth Games held in Kingston ,Jamaica. Two stamps are listed below.
