Native Dwellings Papua New Guinea – Stamps of 1971

A Set of Four stamps was issued by Papua New Guinea on Native Dwellings on 27 Jan 1971.

5c- Eastern Highlands Dwelling – Use woven pitpit blind walls and kunai thatch roofing.Pitpit is long grass.Houses build low to keep warm in cold and roof ceiling high to keep smoke away while cooking.

7c -Milne Bay Dwelling -Stllt houses,special timber,height 3-4 metres to cater for high tides.

10c -Purai Delta Dwelling Built on stilts to provide good view,flood protection,ventilation and protection from animals.

40c – Sepik Dwelling – Bulit in stilts,deeply set in clay of riverbank,3.5-4 metres high stilt,special timber used.
