Thailand Postcards – FIFA World Cup Champions from 1930 to 2018.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup was hosted by Brazil from 12th June to 13th July 2014. It was the 20th edition of FIFA World Cup and Brazil was hosting it for the second time, the first being in 1950, and the fifth time that it was being held in South America.
Thailand Post planned to issue 210 million Lucky-draw Postcards of Two Baht each asking Soccer fans to guess who will win the final of 2014 FIFA World Cup. It offered 40 million Baht in prize money in a joint campaign with a local mass circulation local daily newspaper. Thailand Post had sold 206 million Postcards for guessing the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner.
Postcards were put on sale from 01 Jun 2014 and were to be submitted nine hours before the Final kick-off. The interest exceeded expectations as 210 million Postcards were sold out and Thailand Post printed another 25 million Postcards to meet the demand.
There were 10 different Postcards in the set. Eight countries who had won the FIFA World Cup from 1930 to 2010 featured on each of the eight Postcards. Two postcards were blank to predict the 2014 Winners. Each of the eight Postcards was unique as they featured the Winner Country’s name, Flag and Year of winning the World Cup.
Brazil has the World Cup Five times (1958,1962,1970,1994 and 2002) and they are the only team to have played in every World Cup since 1930. Apart from this, it has been placed runners-up twice & third place finish twice, which makes it the most successful national team. Cafu has played four World Cups and has been part of Winning team twice. He has also played record 20 Matches. Ronaldo has played 19 matches in Four World Cups and is top goal scorer with 15 goals. This is a commendable and fantastic record.
Germany has won it four times (including the 2014 edition). It has finished runners-up four times and was placed third also four times. Lothar Matthaus has played 25 matches for Germany in Five World Cups.
Italy has also won the FIFA World Cup four times (1934,1938,1982 & 2006). It has finished runners-up twice and has been placed third once. It has appeared in 18 out of 21 World Cups.
