Minnesota– State Bird – Common Loon designated as State Bird in 1961. Loons are largely Black and White birds with red eyes. Loons are known for their cries, wails and yodels. Appears on US States quarter Dollar Coin issued in 2005.
State Flower- Showy Lady Slipper. It was designated as the state flower in 1967. It is a rare wildflower also known as the moccasin flower. It can live up to 50 years but take up to 16 years to produce first flowers
