Japanese Immigration to Peru – 2020

Peru issued a 7.60 Sol Miniature sheet on 29 Jan 2020 to mark 120th Anniversary of First Japanese Immigration to Peru. Sakura Maru carried Japanese Families from Yokohama to Peru. They landed on 03 April 1899 at Peruvian Port city of Callao. This group of 790 became First Japanese immigrants to South America. Japanese immigrants arrived in Brazil nine years later. Peru has second largest number of Japanese Immigrants or ethnic Japanese Population in South America after Brazil.
