Hump-Backed Masheer Critically Endangered – Special Cover 2021.

Karnataka Postal Circle issued a Special Cover on Hump backed Masheer which is now declared as critically endangered species and put on IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Redlist. The cover was issued on 02 Oct 2021 to mark 67th Wildlife Week. The Hump-backed Masheer is also known as “Orange Finned Masheer ” and “The Tiger of Cauvery River”. It is also recognised as World’s top 20 freshwater mega Fauna. It plays a very important role in riverrine ecosystem.

It is found in River Cauvery and Kerala’s Pambar, Kabini and Bhavani rivers.
