XXIV Olympic Winter Games -Slovenia Stamps 2022
Snowboarding first appeared in 1960 in the USA, when people across the country started seeking out new winter activities. In other words it’s a very young sport that combines elements of surfing, roller skating and skiing. It has been part of the Winter Olympics since 1998, when the games were held in Nagano, Japan.
At the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014 and PyeongChang in 2018, Slovene competitors had a very good showing. All three medals – a silver and two bronzes – were won by Žan Košir.
The biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and shooting a rifle. Its historical roots stretch far back to when hunters would use skis and bows. The modern history of the sport may have begun in 1776, when the military patrols of Norway and Sweden vied with each other along their border. To date the biathlon has earned Slovenia two Olympic medals. In Sochi in 2014 Teja Gregorin surprised us by winning the bronze, then four years later the bar was raised by Jakov Fak securing silver.
