Stamps India 2026 – 200 Years of Hindi Journalism.
The First Hindi Newspaper of India i.e, UDANT MARTAND, was published from Kolkata on 30 May 1826 under the editorship of Yugal Kishore Shukla. Udant Martand means ” The Sun of News”. Though it ceased publication on 04 Dec 1827 due to lack of official Patronage but it laid the foundation of Hindi Journalism in India.
1854 (First Daily): The first Hindi daily, Samachar Sudha Varshan, began publication in Calcutta under editor Shyam Sundar Sen.
India Post marked 200 Years of Hindi journalism by releasing a Five rupee commemorative stamp on 30 May 2026. The stamp was printed by Security Printing Press , Hyderabad by Wet Offset Process. The Print quantity is 207100. ( Source India Post Brochure).
