The 2004 Summer Olympics or XXVIII Olympics were held in Athens Greece from 13 to 29 Aug 2004. A total of 10,625 athletes from 201 Nations participated in 28 Sports, 40 Disciplines and 301 events. The USA topped the medals tally with 36 Gold Medals.

Sri Lanka issued a set of Four stamps on 06 Aug 2004 to commemorate the Olympics.

Sri Lanka issued a stamp of Rupees Five on 23 Apr 2009 to commemorate the Tricentenary of Leprosy Hospital Hendala near Colombo. The Dutch established a Leprosy Asylum near south Bank of river Kelani near Colombo in 1708-09. An FDC with stamp cancelled at National Blood Transfusion Service Auditorium Colombo.

The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup was held in England and Wales from 30 May to 14 July 2019.

The 1996 Cricket World cup was played in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It was the Sixth World Cup. It was played from 14 February to 17 March 1996 and was also known as Wills’ World Cup 1996. India & Pakistan were hosting the World Cup for the second time whereas Sri Lanka was hosting it for the first time. 12 Countries participated in the tournament. Sri Lanka defeated Australia by 7 Wickets in the final at Gadaffi stadium Lahore to lift the trophy.

Sri Lanka issued a beautiful miniature sheet containing four triangular-shaped stamps to celebrate its victory. The miniature sheet was released on 18 August 1996. The caption on the bottom of miniature sheet read “1996 World Cup Cricket Champions Sri Lanka”.

Sri Lanka brought out joint issue miniature sheet with Thailand on theme 60 Years of Diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand on 02 Nov 2015. The MS contains two stamps. The Miniature sheet is in the shape of a Stupa

10 Rupees- Jethavana Stupa- This Stupa was built by King Mahasena of Anuradhapura (273-301 AD). It is now located in the ruins of Jetavan Monastery in World Heritage City of Anuradhapura the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. When constructed it stood at 122 metres or 400 feet, it was at that time largest stupa in the world and the third-largest structure in the World. The present height is 71 metres or 233 feet

50 Rupees  – Phrapathomchedi Pagoda. It is Buddhist stupa located in a temple in the town centre of Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Pathom Province of Thailand. It is the tallest stupa in Thailand at 120.45 metres. It is believed to have been built around 193 BC by monks sent by King Ashoka during his reign (268-232 BC).

Sri Lanka Post issued a  stamp during Lanka Philex 2008 stamp Exhibition on 05 Dec 2008. The Five rupees stamp featured scenes from a Children’s story -Two Men and the Bear. A Block from a sheet is listed. The sheet contained 20 stamps -the size of the stamp is 72x30mm.
