State Flag of Illinois – USA 1976.
The USA issued a set of 50 stamps on State Flags of States of the USA on 23 Feb 1976. We are listing them in Alphabetical order of States name. All stamps are 13 cents denomination. Stamps on 13th State are listed.
Illinois State Flag – The First State flag of Illinois was adopted in 1915. Miss Lucy Derwent’s design was selected. 35 entries were submitted to Daughters of the American Revolution and Mrs Ella Park Lawrence.
The Flag features the central image of the state seal (An Eagle holding a banner in its beak with State motto “State Sovereignty, National Union”). 1868 is the year when the Seal was redesigned and the First Constitution was signed on 26 Aug 1818.
In 1969 the Word Illinois was added below the seal and a rising sun on Lake Michigan’s horizon in the background.
