State Flag of Indiana – USA 1976.
The USA issued a set of 50 stamps on State Flags of States of the USA on 23 Feb 1976. We are listing them in Alphabetical order of States name. All stamps are 13 cents denomination.
Indiana State Flag – The First State flag of Illinois was adopted in 1917 as part of Centennial celebrations. The winning design by Paul Hadley of Mooresville Indiana was selected during a competition sponsored by Daughters of the American Revolution.
The Blue & Gold Flag features a torch which symbolises Liberty & enlightenment, the rays represent far-reaching influence. Thirteen stars in the outer circle represent the original thirteen states, five stars in inner semi-circle represent the next five states to join the Union. The 19th and the large star over the torch represent Indiana joining as 19th state in 1816.
